Mermaid in motion

I spent an afternoon learning how to use Inkscape to create the kind of files needed to use the laser cutter that I am lucky enough to be able to experiment with. I am NOT a computer wiz, and using Inkscape does not come very natural to me, but I think I have got the hang now of what I need to do to convert my doodles to something that the laser cutter can understand.

Here is  the first cut we made, my teacher and I.  I’m so happy with it I’ll now make some more designs that compliments the mermaid and my first finished product will be a mermaid mobile. I will try out different materials, acrylic, carton, felt, whatever the laser cutter can handle. The possibilities are endless! In the future there will be lanterns, postcards, window decorations, christmas decorations, shadow puppets… I can go on forever.

Here she is, 8 cm high, dangling like nothing else! I think she is gorgeous (if I may say so myself).
